COURSES FOR HEALTH PROFESSIONALS - NRTC Asthma Assessment and Management Course

WHEN:
January - April 2009
Compulsory Study days: March 11th and 12th 2009

WHERE:
Optional study evenings will take place in The Diabetes Centre KEMH weekly leading up to the compulsory days at Charities House.

WHAT:
Invest in your career. A comprehensive training program designed to expand clinical practice and expertise. Through greater understanding of the disease, participants build competence in assessment and diagnosis (including spirometry), pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic management, clinical decision making in line with guidelines and evidence-based practice, and patient education.

Not just another lecture. Expert trainer. Small group setting. Interactive curriculum. Case studies and hands-on experience with assessment tools, devices, and equipment apply learning to practice during mid-course study days.

It's about change in practice. Self study throughout the course supports understanding of disease process and reinforces best practice as participants apply new skills to patient care. A patient management paper at course end demonstrates integration of knowledge and practice.

Graduates are prepared to provide excellent patient care.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion, participants will be able to:

  • Demonstrate solid understanding of disease process and medications.
  • Take a comprehensive patient history and understand significance of information gathered.
  • Apply criteria for diagnosis and staging to case study patients.
  • Design a comprehensive management plan for adults and children, including appropriate medications, devices, and self-monitoring.
  • Write an asthma action plan.
  • Recognize signs and symptoms of acute exacerbation and recommend proper treatment.
